Hybrid quantum computers - GPUs & QPUs in close cooperation

Hybrid quantum computers combine the proven strength of classic HPC systems and GPUs with the unique advantages of quantum accelerators. They are designed to solve complex tasks highly efficiently, far beyond the capabilities of traditional systems. With this approach, data-intensive challenges can be overcome while new research and innovation opportunities arise.

We at Nelpx GmbH are testing and developing the new hybrid technology in close cooperation with our renowned partners and would like to approach our customers with a finished offer in the next few months.

The diamond-based quantum accelerators are designed to be integrated into existing high-performance computing (HPC) servers and workstations to significantly boost their performance. Here are some details:

Integration into existing systems:

  • The quantum accelerators are comparable in size and shape to a classic GPU or CPU and can therefore be easily integrated into existing hardware setups.
  • They operate at ambient temperatures, which means they can function without complex cooling mechanisms such as cryogenics.

Synergy between quantum and classical computers:

  • The quantum accelerators work as co-processors that take on certain very demanding tasks, while the classical systems continue to be used for regular calculations.
  • These tasks include, for example, optimization problems, chemical simulations, machine learning and other areas in which quantum algorithms can work faster or more efficiently.
  • Quantum accelerators are optimized for specific calculations. They use quantum mechanisms such as superposition and entanglement to solve highly complex tasks such as optimization problems or molecular simulations faster and more precisely than classical systems could.

Expansion of HPC capabilities:

  • With a quantum accelerator, current HPC servers can solve certain problems faster and more energy-efficiently without having to introduce completely new, purely quantum-based systems.
  • This leads to a gradual introduction of quantum computing into everyday life and lowers the hurdles for companies and research institutions.

Massive parallelization and mobile applications:

  • Our partners' roadmap (until 2025) aims to make these accelerators available for massively parallelized applications and mobile platforms. This means that even smaller workstations or mobile devices could benefit from this technology.

What are the advantages of hybrid quantum computers?

  • Efficient use of resources: The intelligent combination of HPC, GPUs and quantum accelerators maximizes computing power. Each component takes on tasks that correspond to its respective strength, significantly increasing overall performance.
  • Scalability: Hybrid systems can be flexibly adapted to perform both small and large-scale calculations. This makes them suitable for a wide range of applications in research and industry.
  • Cost efficiency: Since quantum accelerators work at room temperature, there is no need for expensive cooling systems. This reduces operating costs and makes the technology more accessible.
  • Promoting innovation: With hybrid quantum computers, companies and research institutions can react more quickly to new discoveries as they can perform complex calculations in less time.

Hybrid quantum systems are a breakthrough in computing technology. The combination of HPC and quantum accelerators offers unprecedented possibilities for solving complex tasks.
